Recommended Artist of the Week: Deer Park Avenue

We’re Deer Park Avenue. We’re sisters who love making rock music together. This keeps us from ever really having a fight. We’ve been called rock, pop, power-pop, alternative, even punk — high energy, fun, melodic, with an old school edge — a sound as eclectic as the music and cultures that made us.

We’re Sarah and Stephanie Snyder and we started Deer Park Avenue way before we even thought of the name. When we were little kids we were playing drums and guitar together on some of our favorite Beatles tunes and started putting together mini concerts for friends and family and other captive audiences. We went from playing pop songs in our living room to songs at church and covers at talent shows and festivals, and quickly started writing songs together, even though we wouldn’t play them for anyone but the family cat for years to come.

By the time we were teenagers, our family moved to Switzerland, where we started a church and a cover band, and we’ve basically been wandering the world ever since. Our mum is from India and our dad is from Southern California, so we love the international thing—cultures, languages, food, all of it. Our dad is also a pastor, and we’re lucky and blessed to have played music for hundreds of people in churches between our time in the States and Europe.

Defying any modern sense of stability and tradition and…normalness, we share time between California, France, Switzerland, New York, Germany, meeting people and playing shows and making music whenever and wherever we can, always chasing another new adventure, sharing our songs and love for rock ‘n’ roll with the friends we get to meet along the way.

Our first release, City Streets [EP], was a small collection of songs we recorded with the amazing Matt Bissonette, our producer and musical hero. Matt co-produces our projects with us and generally keeps us out of trouble and mayhem when we’re in the studio (although sometimes he is part of it). We’ve also gotten to play with our other musical hero, Gregg Bissonette, at his clinics in Europe and in the States, and Gregg played on one of our tracks from our upcoming EP!

Speaking of which, our new release, Stop & Go, very highly anticipated by both our parents, is out now on iTunes, Amazon, CD Baby, and available at gigs starting in November. We’ve got way too many unrecorded new songs to count at the moment as it is, so stay tuned for more releases and shows and crazy stories from the road.

We are way over-the-top MORE than thankful to everyone who listens to our music, helps promote us, comes to our shows, cyberstalks us, likes our pages or anything else, really. You’re the only reason we can keep doing this and we love you more than we can say.

Email us, post on our wall, tweet us, or message us whenever you’d like. We always love making new friends.
