The Last Ones – Review by Cat Hennebury

I like to spend a bit of time playing on social networks.  My main hangouts are twitter and facebook, though I can also be regularly seen checking out Soundcloud and Reverbnation too.  I like to chat with people, I like to check out videos and music, I like it when I get the chance to chat with a musician and he/she sends me a link to their stuff…..but when all of that happens plus the music is original plus the band rocks plus there’s a free download I fucking LOVE it!

That was exactly the case with Houston rock band The Last Ones.  The free download isn’t exclusive to me either… you can get yours too, all you need is an email address…. here, I’ll even make it easy for you, click here -> The Last Ones.  Everything about this band fucking grabbed me right away.  The tight sound, the masculine vocals with a smooth sexy edge….or is that the smooth sexy vocals with a rough masculine edge…I can’t decide, and oh yeah, the fucking killer guitar!  It was a little later as I dug into the band a little more, reading their website and checking their links that I found out they were a three piece band.  I was blown away…I couldn’t believe how much fucking sound this band could create with a guitar, drum kit and a bass guitar!

Daniel de Luna, killer guitarist, fronts the band he shares with his two close friends Chris De La Rosa, tight and in control on drums and Victor Bernard feeding out that perfect rhythm on bass.  Daniel and Chris started playing and writing together in high school…playing school talent shows and small gigs.  Porcelain Sky, a song on their current EP was written during this time.  Unfortunately life sometimes gets in the way of rock ‘n roll and the two friends were separated.  Coming back together after several years of not playing together in 2009, they fell right back into sync, asking Daniel’s friend Victor a budding bass player to join them to form The Last Ones.

These three share an chemistry that comes from long time friendship and translates musically into a perfectly melded classic sound that appeals to the listener immediately.  And although the band continues to work together to hone their sound to perfection, the result to date is a fucking killer EP that I highly recommend a listen to.  You can say you heard it here first before everyone else hears it all over the radio.  I will definitely be keeping an eye on this band.  If this is just the start… I can only fucking  imagine what they still have in store for us!!

About Cat

Hi, I'm Cat. I love music and I love to write! I write a blog about the music I love and how I relate to it. I write my reviews here much the same way. They are honest and positive. I have a pretty open mind so actually there isn't a lot of music around that I can't appreciate. Oh one other thing, I suffer from a terrible case of trucker's mouth...if swearing offends you, you may want to fuck off now.
